Dell PowerEdge 2650

Power Subsystem

The PowerEdge 2650 base redundant system utilizes two hot-plug 500W power supplies in a 1+1 configuration. The power supplies connect directly to the system board, and power is then redistributed throughout the system.

Power on the PowerEdge 2650 is "soft-switched", allowing power cycling via a switch on the front of the system enclosure or via software control (through server management functions). The power system is compatible with industry standards, such as ACPI 1.0 and Microsoft NT Server H/W Design Guide v2.0. The following table identifies key specifications for the power supply.

Power Supply Specifications

Wattage

500 W (AC)

Voltage

100-240 VAC, 60/50MHz, 5.0 A

200-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 5.0A

Heat Dissipation

180 W or 614 BTU/hr

Maximum in rush current

Under typical line conditions and over the entire system ambient operating range, the inrush current may reach 55 A per power supply for 10ms or less.

System battery

CR2032 3.0-V lithium coin cell

As previously noted, the PowerEdge 2650 offers an option for hot-plug redundant power supplies in order to ensure the system will not fail if one of the power supplies fails. The dual power supplies also enable power to be routed from two different sources into a single server. This feature provides even greater availability, because if one power source fails, the server will continue to draw power from the second source. Power supplies can be removed from the rear of the chassis, which means that a failed power supply can be replaced without opening the server or removing it from the rack.

48V Power Supply Option
An optional 48-Volt power supply is available on the PowerEdge 2650; this configuration requires the use of a special power cable.
Power Distribution Board

The PowerEdge 2650 does not contain a Power Distribution Board. The necessary docking connections are integrated into the system board.
