Dell PowerEdge 6650

Product Overview

The Dell PowerEdge 6650 is a rack-optimized 4U general purpose server designed to replace the PowerEdge 6450. The PowerEdge 6650 is specifically designed for customers deploying business-critical enterprise systems inside data centers and other rack environments. The PowerEdge 6650 delivers the same high availability, scalability, performance, and serviceability features as the PowerEdge 6600, but in a 4U rack dense form factor suited for data center, clustering, storage area network (SAN), and scalable enterprise computing (SEC) environments.
Product Features
Key features of the PowerEdge 6650 include:

  • Quad 1.6GHz Xeon processors on the ServerWorks GCHE chipset when first shipped, with faster processors likely to be available later.
  • 200/400 MHz Front Side Bus (quad-pumped Data)
  • 512K and 1MB L3 cache options
  • Two memory cards in system for support of up to 16GB SDRAM
  • I/O Architecture supports 8 slots of PCI and PCI-X
    • 1 PCI Slot at 32-bit, 33 MHz
    • 7 PCI-X Slots at 64 bit, 100 MHz (or PCI at 64/66)
    • All slots support PCI Hot Plug (PHP)
  • Two integrated PCI-X Broadcom 5700/5411 10/100/1000 (Gbit) Ethernet NICs
  • Integrated single channel U160 SCSI controller for external tape support
  • RAID support with optional PERC3 SCSI PCI adapters (dual or quad channels)
  • 1MB Flash for system BIOS, video BIOS and SCSI BIOS
  • Integrated PCI video with 8MB SDRAM
  • Redundant, individual hot-swap cooling for system boards and peripherals
  • Dell Embedded Server Management 3 provides IPMI 1.0 compliance
  • Supports optional Dell Remote Access Card (DRAC III)
  • Hot-Pluggable SCSI backplane
    • Five slot backplane for 1" drives only (Can be split into 2x3 backplane via a daughtercard)
  • 4U chassis can be oriented vertically as a floor-standing tower or rack-mounted horizontally
  • 5 hot-plug drive bays
  • 1 internal 5 1/4" bays (half-height or full-height) for tape support
  • Redundant, hot-swap 900W power supplies (supports 2 supplies in a 1+1 configuration)
