Dell PowerEdge 4600

Software

Operating Systems
PowerEdge 4600 will support factory installation of the following Operating Systems:
  • Windows NT4 Server
  • Windows 2000 Server
  • Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Red Hat Linux 7.1
  • Red Hat Linux 7.2
The PowerEdge 4600 has been tested and validated for NetWare 5.1 and NetWare 6.0 although factory installation will not be an option unless through DellPlus.

The following Operating systems are not currently supported or certified by Dell on the PowerEdge 4600: Netware 4.2, Solaris x86 UNIX, SCO UNIX, and UNIXware.

Utilities and Applications

Dell OpenManage Server Assistant (OMSA)

The PowerEdge 4600 will ship with Dell OpenManage Server Assistant (DSA) CD version 7.0.1. DSA 7.0.1 incorporates the following changes:

  • Added support for PE1650
  • Added support for PE4600
  • Supports both IDE and SCSI hard drive systems for PE1650
  • Integrated Array Manager 3.1.2
  • Incorporated Adaptec 2.7 drivers
  • Updated BroadCom NIC drivers
  NOTE: To use the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD, the system must have at least 128 MB of RAM. For systems with 64 MB of RAM, operating system drivers contained on the CD can be accessed by creating a set of diskettes on another system with at least 128 MB of RAM and running Microsoft Windows NT or 2000.
System Management CD

The PowerEdge 4600 will ship with version 3.0.1 of the System Management CD. This release adds support for the PowerEdge 1650 and the PowerEdge 4600.

Array Manager

The PowerEdge 4600 will ship with version 3.1.2 of the Array Manager. This release adds support for the PowerEdge 1650 and the PowerEdge 4600.

Resource Configuration Utility
There is no RCU for the PowerEdge 4600. Various PnP configuration settings are available in the BIOS Setup menu.
Dell Diagnostics
Dell Diagnostics will be provided on the CD-ROM that is shipped with the system and can be accessed through the Utility Partition when installed.
OpenManage Hard Drive Diagnostics
The Dell PowerEdge 4600 ships with OpenManage Hard Drive Diagnostics, which can be run through Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 1 or Windows NT Server Service Pack 6.
