Racking a PowerEdge 6650

Rack Kit
The PowerEdge 6650 is a rack mount server. It ships from the factory with rack installation components such as rails and ears.

Installing Rack and Cable Management Hardware
Step 1: At the front of the rack cabinet, position one of the Rapid Rails slide assemblies so that its mounting-bracket flange fits between the marks.

The mounting hook at the top of the slide assembly mounting-bracket flange should enter the top hole between the marks on the vertical rails.

Step 2: Push the slide assembly forward until both mounting hooks enter their respective square holes on the vertical rail, and then push down on the mounting-bracket flange until the mounting hooks are seated in the square holes and the blue push button pops out and clicks.

Step 3: At the back of the cabinet, pull back on the mounting-bracket flange until the mounting hooks are located in their respective square holes, and then push down on the mounting-bracket flange until the mounting hooks are seated in their square holes and the push button pops out and clicks.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the remaining slide assembly on the other side of the rack.

Ensure that the rails are mounted at the same position on the vertical rails on each side of the rack.

Step 5: Facing the back of the rack, insert the cable-management arm bracket into the rectangular slot on the slide rail assembly.

Step 6: Press the cable-management arm bracket against the slide rail assembly until it is secured to the slide rail assembly.

Step 7: Pull the two interior slide assemblies out of the rack until they lock in the fully extended position.

Step 8: Use a minimum of two people to lift the system. Each person should lift from the side of the chassis. If you are installing the system high up in the rack, consider using four people and platforms or mechanical hoisting equipment.

Tilt the front of the system upward while aligning the back shoulder screws on the sides of the system with the back slots on the slide assemblies.

Engage the back shoulder screws in the slot just behind the back (green) latch first, followed by the middle shoulder screw in the slot near the middle (yellow) latch, and then the front shoulder screw in the front slot.

Step 9: When all shoulder screws are properly seated, the yellow latch on each slide assembly clicks and locks the system into the slide assembly.

Step 10: Press up on the green release latch on each slide assembly and push the chassis into the rack.

Step 11: Align the hinge halves (one on the back end of the previously installed cable-management arm bracket, and the other on the free end of the cable-management arm) and join them with the pull-ring pin.

Step 12: Using the thumbscrew on the vertical rail mounting bracket, secure the bracket to the back of the vertical rail, immediately behind the slide assembly.

Step 13: Place the cable management arm release pin (opposite the cable-management arm thumbscrew) behind the vertical rail.
