PowerSuites

The OpenManage PowerSuites offer data protection. They are a tiered suite of software products offering comprehensive backup, restore and recovery capabilities for data. The software products that comprise each suite within PowerSuites leverage commercially available data protection products fully optimized for Dell server and storage systems. As such, each suite is fully tested, qualified and certified for use on Dell server and tape backup products.

Two different PowerSuite versions are available to provide flexibility for various IT environments:

PowerSuites play a critical role in Dell's storage products strategy by providing complete data protection for all configurations of Dell servers and SANs.

Server Edition

The Server Edition is a suite of backup products suitable for a single Windows NT®, Windows 2000 Professional®, Windows 2000 Server®, or Novell NetWare® server with a directly attached single tape backup unit. The server edition also contains disaster recovery options. Disaster recovery allows a server to completely recover from a catastrophic event quickly using only a few floppy diskettes or a CD-ROM. The Backup Exec Server Edition is also suitable for Microsoft Small Business Server®.

Server Pro Edition

The Server Pro edition is a suite of backup products suitable for multiple Windows NT, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced server®, or Novell NetWare servers. The Server Pro edition contains a tape library option which adds support for an unlimited number of drives residing in a tape library. Disaster recovery options are also available in the server suite.

SAN Edition

The SAN Edition is a suite of backup products suitable for a single Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Datacenter® in a SAN or LAN environment. In addition to the library and disaster recover options, the SAN edition contains a shared storage option. This option allows multiple servers to share a tape device.

Specialized Options/Agents

Specialized options and agents allow a PowerSuite to perform additional tasks that are not included in the base product. An open file option will allow a PowerSuite to backup files that are open or in use. Other options include database agents, which allow databases or mail servers to be backed up. Over the wire backups are also possible using specialized agents. These agents are installed on remote machines and allow the PowerSuite software to connect and back them up.
