Dell PowerEdge 6650

Diagnostic Software

The PowerEdge 6650 hardware should be tested using the latest 32-bit version of Dell Diagnostics. Dell Diagnostic software for the PowerEdge 6650 is available in two versions:
Off-Line Diagnostics

Dell makes available detailed 32-bit diagnostics that help you check the system's hardware without any additional equipment and without destroying any data. If you find a problem that you cannot solve by yourself, the diagnostic tests can provide important information that may be useful when talking to a technical assistance representative.

These diagnostics are intended to run after a reboot in a very basic operating system environment in order to reduce non-hardware variables. Therefore, your server must be taken out of production for the duration of testing.

The off-line diagnostics are located on the utility partition (accessible at boot by pressing <F10>) or can be run from diskettes (created from the Dell Server Assistant CD).

On-Line Diagnostics

To test your hardware without taking the server out of production, Dell offers on-line diagnostics through OpenManage Server Administrator. The testing routines and results provided are very similar to the off-line diagnostics, but these tests can be run under supported Microsoft Windows or Linux Operating Systems without the need for a reboot.

These diagnostics are part of the function of OpenManage Server Administrator, which can be installed from the OpenManage Systems Management CD. Like all functions of Server Administrator, the diagnostics can be launched either locally or remotely.
