IP4700

The Dell | EMC IP4700 differs from the other Dell | EMC product offerings as it is a high-end Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution rather than a SAN or DAS solution. It is an intelligent, high-performance, highly-available, high-capacity disk-array file server storage system designed for business-critical applications. It is based on the same architecture as other Dell | EMC products but is optimized for the NAS role.

The IP4700 supports the following features:

  • Modular, scalable design simplifies upgrading the IP4700 when additional storage is required.

  • The IP 4700 uses Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) as the disk interconnect, as all Dell | EMC products do. This contributes to the increased availability and performance of the IP4700 when compared to SCSI-based NAS solutions.

  • Contains two storage processors (SPs). Each SP may have four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports or one one-gigabit Ethernet port used for file sharing over IP networks. Each SP also contains an additional integrated Ethernet device used for administrative and management functions.

  • Supports up to 9 disk array enclosures (DAEs) for a total of up to 100 disk modules. DAEs may be mounted in the enclosure with the IP4700 or in separate cabinets.

  • Provides optional tape backup capability through a single integrated LVD/SE SCSI port.

  • Supports CIFS (Common Internet File System, used by NT) and NFS (Network File System, used by UNIX) file sharing protocols.
