Dell PowerEdge 1650

Chassis

The PowerEdge 1650's chassis has approximate dimensions of 1.67" x 19" (front plate), and 27.0" deep. The system board is mounted horizontally, with top access. All drives are accessible from the front and the power supply is accessed from the top.
Rack Options
The PowerEdge 1650 has three rack options:
  • Traditional four-post mounting that utilizes Dell's RapidRails and fits into Dell PowerEdge Racks (4210 42U 1000mm rack, 24U 1000mm rack, and 42U 850mm rack)
  • 2-post center-mount and flush-mount options that allow the PowerEdge 1650 to be mounted into an existing Chatsworth two-post rack. Two-post racks have traditionally been used in telecommunication environments, but they are gaining popularity with ISPs and ASPs. Unlike the 2-post solutions on the PowerEdge 1550, which were static mounted solutions, the 2-post solutions for the PowerEdge 1650 allow the server to slide back and forth as in a 4-post rack. This permits servicing a system within the rack environment-- in other words, the server does not have to be removed from the rack in order to access internal components.
  • The Versarails option is available for third party racks.
Security Features
The PowerEdge 1650 features power-off security via recessed power buttons in the front panel.
Intrusion Alert
The PowerEdge 1650 features a switch that is toggled when the top cover is opened or closed. This switch sends a signal to the server management software to record an instruction event. When enabled, the software will provide notification that the cover has been opened.
Fans
There are six fans total in the system: four system fans distributed across the chassis, after the peripheral bay; and two power supply fans, one for each power supply. The power supply fan by the control panel will be connected to the header on the flex cable stiffener. The power supply fan at rear is connected to a fan header on the system planar. All fan speeds are controlled by ESM3 firmware.
