Dell PowerEdge 2650

Racking

The PowerEdge 2650 has two racking options: the traditional four-post mounting that utilizes Dell's RapidRails and fits into Dell PowerEdge racks (as well as Compaq 7142 and 9000 series enclosures); or, the system can be mounted in an existing Chatsworth two-post rack using a 2-post kit from Dell.

2-Post Rack Mount

Two-post racks have been traditionally used in telecommunication environments but are gaining popularity with ISPs and ASPs. The 2-post rack kit utilizes Dell's RapidRails and includes improvements designed to simplify the installation and servicing of the PowerEdge 2650. The sliding rails can be mounted in either a flush or center mount configuration, and the two-post racks utilize the same cable management arm as the 4-post kit. The rails are similar to those used in the 4-post kit, except that the 2-post rails include adjustable mounting brackets.

4-Post Rack Mount Mechanical

The PowerEdge 2650 is also supported in Dell PowerEdge Racks (24U and 42U) and the Compaq 7142 and 9000 series enclosures. 21 PowerEdge 2650's can be installed into a rack when using a side-mount zero-U PDU. The RapidRails used on the PowerEdge 2650 require no tools, which decreases install times.

Racking Instructions

To install the PowerEdge 2650 in a Dell rack, first install the RapidRails in the rack. Once the rails are installed, you simply place the system in appropriate slots in each rack rail, then install the cables and cable management arm. A detailed cable installation guide is provided below.

Installing the Rack Hardware for the PowerEdge 2650

Step 1: At the front of the rack cabinet, position one of the RapidRails slide assemblies so that its mounting-bracket flange fits between the marks on the rack.

The top mounting hook on the slide assembly’s front mounting bracket flange should enter the top hole between the marks on the vertical rails.

Step 2: Push the slide assembly forward until the top mounting hook enters the top square hole on the vertical rail, then push down on the mounting-bracket flange until the mounting hooks seat in the square holes and the push button pops out and clicks.

Step 3: At the back of the cabinet, pull back on the mounting-bracket flange until the top mounting hook is in the top square hole, then push down on the flange until the mounting hooks seat in the square holes and the push button pops out and clicks.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the slide assembly on the other side of the rack.

IMPORTANT - More Information NOTE:  Although the racking and cable management steps are listed separately, you will want to begin the cable management installation process after this step in the racking instructions.

Step 5: Pull the two slide assemblies out of the rack until they lock in the fully extended position.

IMPORTANT - More Information NOTE: If you are installing more than one system, install the first system in the lowest available position in the rack

IMPORTANT - More Information CAUTION: Never pull more than one component out of the rack at a time. Because of the size and weight of the system, it is recommended you have more than one person install the system into the slide assemblies.

Step 6: Place one hand on the front-bottom of the system and the other hand on the back-bottom of the system and lift the system into position in front of the extended slides.

Step 7: Tilt the back of the system down while aligning the back shoulder screws on the sides of the system with the back slots on the slide assemblies, then engage the back shoulder screws into their slots.

Step 8: Lower the front of the system and engage the front and middle shoulder screws in their slots (the middle slot is just behind the yellow system release latch). When all shoulder screws are properly seated, the yellow latch on each slide assembly clicks and locks the system into the slide assembly.

Step 9: Press up on the green slide release latch at the side of each slide to push the system completely into the rack.

Step 10: Push in and turn the captive thumbscrews on each side of the front chassis panel to secure the system to the rack.
