Dell PowerEdge 6650

SCSI/RAID

Internal Hard Disk Drives
The PowerEdge 6650 supports 1-inch SCSI hard disk drives.
  • 1.6-inch drives are not supported.
  • SCSI drive support is for LVD SCSI including Ultra-160 and Ultra-320.
  • Support for 7200, 10K, and 15K RPM drives.
  • Hard drives must use the appropriate Dell Hard Disk Drive Carrier outlined below.
Hard Disk Drive Carriers
The PowerEdge 6600 and the 6650 use the same drive carriers as the PowerVault 2xxx. This is a departure from the standard Dell carrier used in other PowerEdge systems in the past.

The change in carriers is necessary to support the 5 drive requirement of the PowerEdge 6650 and to provide enhanced EMI capabilities necessary for FC-AL drives and U-320 SCSI.

The disk carrier supports a 1.0 inch SCA-2 direct-attach disk drive. The disk carrier provides a cam for inserting and extracting the disk drive into and from the enclosure and limits the insertion rate of the SCA-2 connector. The carrier supports hot plug and blind mating and incorporates an EMI spring finger to ground to the adjacent carrier or enclosure.
