Dell PowerEdge 6650

Embedded Network Controllers

The PowerEdge 6650 server includes dual embedded BroadCom Gigabit Ethernet controllers. This dual embedded solution eliminates the need to take up a valuable PCI slot with a NIC, while maintaining high network availability with features such as: failover support, Wake-on-LAN support (WOL) and network traffic load-balancing. These controllers are located on the Legacy I/O card and provide compatibility for 10/100/1000 Ethernet environments using RJ-45 connectors. The two controllers reside on the same dedicated PCI-X bus (100MHz, 64-bit).

BroadCom 10/100/1000BASE-T NIC

The BroadCom Ethernet controller uses the BCM5700 MAC and BMC5411 PHY ICs to generate the 10/100/1000 NIC controller solution. The BCM5700 is a high-performance 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet LAN controller optimized for NIC and LOM applications. The BCM5700 is a highly integrated solution combining 10/100/100BASE-T IEEE 802.3 compliant Media Access Controller (MAC), PCI and PCI-X bus interfaces, and on-chip buffer memory in a single device. The BCM5700 is fabricated in a low voltage 1.8V CMOS process, providing a low power system solution.
