Dell OpenManage

Introduction

Dell OpenManage is a family of systems management offerings that make it easier to install and manage Dell systems, including servers, storage, and BIOS and drivers. The system management offerings are based on industry-standard technologies and alliances with vendors in the systems management disciplines.

Objectives

After completion of this section, you will be able to:

  • Identify the three "layers" of a managed node: Software, BIOS/firmware, hardware
  • Explain the function of a Dell Remote Access Card or Embedded Remote Access
  • Define Event Management, Configuration Management, Asset Management, and Problem Management
  • Identify which key OpenManage components are designed to address each management area above
  • Identify the basic functions/benefits of each of the following OpenManage components: Server Assistant, Server Administrator (OM 3.x), Server Agent (OM 2.x), IT Assistant, Array Manager, Server Diagnostics (OM 2.x), and Dell Remote Access Card.
  • Match desired systems management capabilities with the OpenManage component(s) that provide(s) it.
