Array Manager

Dell OpenManage Array Manager provides a storage management solution in an integrated graphical view.

Array Manager can manage locally attached SCSI storage as well as some of Dell's PowerVault™ storage devices.

Array Manager can locally and remotely configure and manage storage on a server while the server is online and continuing to process requests. This prevents the downtime often required in configuring a networked RAID array.

This graphic is a generic representation of Array Manager

Array Manager is designed to recognize RAID controllers from multiple manufacturers and allow them to be managed through a single interface so that administrators are not required to learn a new interface for each type of RAID controller they have in use.

Array Manager is designed to be an upgrade and replacement for the Windows 2000 Disk Management and the Windows NT Disk Administrator. When it is installed it disables the service for Disk Management or Disk Administrator, but when it is uninstalled, the native disk management tools are restored.

Array Manager obtains data from storage devices and displays storage configuration in two formats:

  • The physical view shows the physical storage devices
  • The logical view shows the logical drives and volumes that exist on the physical drives.

The following can be accomplished from the Array Manager console:

  • Create and manage RAID solutions
  • Display storage information in a graphical environment
  • Customize the Array Manager interface to suit individual needs

Array Manager must be installed on both the managed node and the management console.
