The Embedded Server Management (ESM3) logic in the system controls the speed of the fans so that system acoustics are lower under normal operating conditions. In the event of a fan failure or over-temperature in the system, the fans are turned to a higher speed in order to prevent system failure. The fans integrated in the power supplies cool the hard drives and peripherals.
