Single-Page BIOS

The one-page scrolling format described in this section is used on the PowerEdge 4600, PowerEdge 2550, PowerEdge 2500, and PowerEdge 1550. The example used is from the PowerEdge 2550; the other systems will have similar features, with some variation in the options available and their order on the page.

Navigation

The following keystrokes perform functions in the PowerEdge 2550 BIOS:

Keystroke Function
<F2> Enters System Setup Program (during POST sequence)
<ALT> + <E> With the keyboard lights lit, clears the ESCD (Extended Setup Configuration Data) stored in NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) on the system board.
<ALT> + <F> Resets all fields in the system setup to factory default settings
<ALT> + <D> With an individual field highlighted, resets the field to its factory default

The following Setup fields are found at the top of the page:

  • System Time and System Date allow setting the proper system time and date. Note that the time and date will be reset if the <ALT> <F> key combination is used to restore factory defaults.

  • System Memory, Diskette Drive A, and Video Memory are informational fields and may not be modified. (On some systems you may be able to specify the type of diskette drive.)

  • CPU Information: pressing <Enter> while this field is highlighted will call up information on the currently installed CPU(s) including cache size, front side bus speed, and clock speed.

  • Boot Sequence: this field allows setting the boot sequence to Hard Drive, Floppy Drive or CD-ROM drive first. Choices may vary according to system configuration.

  • Hard-Disk Drive Sequence: pressing <Enter> while this field is highlighted will bring up a list of hard drive boot options. These will vary according to system configuration but may include System BIOS devices (controlled by the Boot Sequence field above), Embedded Perc 3/Di Controller (if the system has the onboard PERC enabled), and also an option to boot to a PCI card PERC if one is installed.

  • Integrated Devices allows configuration of any devices integrated to the system board. Devices that may be configured include on-board RAID controllers, embedded NICs, serial, USB, parallel and PS/2 ports, onboard IDE controller, and the system speaker. The MAC address for the embedded NICs will also be listed here.
