System Setup Program (BIOS) and Firmware

Single-Page BIOS (continued)

Scrolling down using the arrow keys will reveal additional setup fields:

PE 2550 BIOS Interface 2

Description of Setup Fields (continued):

  • PCI IRQ Assignment allows for manual configuration of PCI resources.

  • PCI Hot-Plug Slot Information displays information about the hot-plug PCI-X slots on the PowerEdge 4600, such as the operating frequency and whether the slots are in PCI or PCI-X mode. This option has no user-selectable settings.

  • Console Redirection allows the video of the system to be output to a remote terminal.

  • Embedded Server Management allows setting such options as the fan speed and the types of information displayed on the front-panel LCD.

  • System Security allows enabling and setting of the system passwords. It also provides a field for enabling or disabling of the Intel processor serial number.

  • OS Install Mode, if set to On, will reduce the available system memory to 256 MB no matter how much is installed. This should be set to On during installation of Microsoft Windows NT 4 on a system with more than 4 GB of memory. The setting should be Off at all other times.

  • System Alert determines what action the system takes if a problem is encountered. Settings are Fault and Warning.

  • Keyboard NumLock is an on/off toggle for the keyboard number lock on 101- or 102-key keyboards.

  • Report Keyboard Errors is a toggle that determines whether the system will report keyboard errors during POST. This should be set to Do Not Report if the server is being used without a keyboard.

  • Asset Tag displays the customer-programmable asset tag number for the system if an asset tag number has been assigned.
